The Joy of Freelancing

When becoming a freelancer you often dream romantically that all will be great, jobs will be easy to find, you have superb client relationships, all your bills get paid with plenty to spare and most important of all – you LOVE what you do…

Now, in all honesty, the times when it all comes together are few and far between, but the last few days have been pure joy for me as a freelance graphic designer. Last Friday I got confirmation of winning new projects from three new clients – all the kind of creative projects I’ve been seeking for ages. Then the last two days of work have been a pure dream… I was absolutely loving what I was doing – I had to pinch myself. I find when work is good, it’s not work at all, it’s like playing. When you’re on such a high, everything just becomes easy and your creative juices overflow, the “right” phrases for copy come into your head, that inspires more imagery, you seek and find that exact image, you drop it all into place seamlessly, you tinker and tease, the creative flow gaining more and more momentum… and when all’s done, you can sit back and admire your own work with immense satisfaction and say “well done!”.
