Creating a magazine has always been an ambition of mine since I first shifted my career from being a technical illustrator into the graphic design world. I finally achieved that ambition in 2009 when the Cork & County Advertiser were looking for a freelance graphic designer to create an upmarket magazine that reflected the interests and contemporary lifestyles of those living in coastal and country areas. The concept was to start off small and distribute the magazine freely, organically building up the advertising clientele, before going national and adding a cover charge.
I wanted the magazine to have an instant “wow” factor impact and set about creating the right look and feel for such a magazine, drawing influences from established lifestyle publications whilst adding my own style, keeping it modern and simple.

Description Sales Brochure
Year 1998
My Work Concept, Photography Art Direction, Brochure Design, Artwork
One of my favourite pieces of work – it was most pleasing in a few areas. I had the chance to direct the commissioned photographer (Andrew Bradley) in such a way to enhance the design of the overall brochure. I also had complete freedom to take the design exactly where I wanted it to go. The client’s reaction was pretty overwhelming too and the brochure’s success was gauged by its eight year life-span, before “mark II” was undertaken.

Description Annual Report
Year 2000
My Work Report Design, Artwork
As with most Annual Reports, the content is pretty standard fare from year to year, however, the cover design and internal layout give you scope to make the document a more interesting read.
Client Warner Lambert/Pfizer
Description Recruitment Brochure for Tablet Plant, Ringaskiddy, Co. Cork
Year 2001
My Work Concept, Main Headline Copy, Brochure Design, Artwork
This was a follow-on recruitment brochure I had produced for Warner-Lambert. Pfizer had recently bought Warner-Lambert and wanted to take my thumbprint/individuality concept and make it even stronger.
Pfizer wanted to recruit truly exceptional individuals and this brochure set out the mind-set they were looking for. It gave me a great opportunity to think and write creatively as well as push the boundaries a little in terms of design. It worked exceptionally well!

Client Pfizer
Description Pension Scheme Annual Report
Year 2000
My Work Concept, Identity Design, Brochure Design, Artwork
The Pfizer Irish Pension Scheme Annual Report has always been seen as a prestigious job among design companies and I was lucky enough to get my chance for the 1999 report. My concept focused on the freedom of choice employees would have once their pension scheme reached full term.
