Description Student Prospectus and Interactive Guide to Cork CD-ROM
Year 2004
After the success of the previous year’s CD, UCC asked me to take it a few steps further. This time they wanted to incorporate more of what Cork had to offer potential students. So I set about creating an interactive guide to Cork which featured a map that students could explore, hotspots within the map when clicked popped up relevant information, the same treatment was given to the UCC Campus. As well as all the standard prospectus information, the CD again featured professional video footage and music – this time I created an interactive jukebox that featured tracks made by current UCC Students.

The annual UCC Student Prospectus was always a large print job, but for 2003 they wanted to add interest by making an interactive version on CD to be packaged with the prospectus. I used Flash to build the project which took meticulous planning and skill to achieve the final result. The CD featured music, a professionally shot video tour complete with voiceover and my own personal highlight – I designed an innovative navigation system that was simple to use yet allowed quick access to the extensive course information.

Description Annual Conference Introductory Movie

Thomas Crosbie Holdings wanted to start their conference off with something impressive and requested a movie style presentation. I had never taken anything on like this before so it was great to have a new challenge. I conceptualised a storyboard and after discussion and approval, began to piece the movie together in Flash. I had to ensure visual interest was maintained throughout whilst also getting the messages across succinctly AND all in time to music that I also had to compose. It all came together perfectly under increasing pressure with the deadline approaching and thankfully… delighted clients!

My first proper foray into using Flash to create a fully interactive CD-ROM. Does anybody even use CD-ROMs nowadays? :)) Anyway, for me, this was a project to learn as you burn. I’d played with Flash before but not to any great length and by the end of this project was very glad I’d said “yes” when asked if I could create an interactive presentation. Great fun creating it and well received by the client, I even composed the music for it :))
