Just gone live with another website design. This one is for the Irish Medical Herbalists Organisation, integral to the site are an attractive homepage highlighting the six latest articles, a live journal/blog, a directory of practitioners which it is hoped will grow and grow, an events listing and a page for upcoming courses.
This site is an example of “designing on a budget” showing that you don’t have to pay a fortune to get a good quality interactive website for your business or organisation. As long as you come to the right place :))

The Irish Subaru Drivers Club is one of the largest car enthusiasts clubs in Ireland (if not, THE largest). From humble beginnings in 1999, the club now has over 300 paying members and an online community of over 1000 members.
My involvement with the club began in 2003 when I became a member and I somehow got elected to the club’s committee as Webmaster in 2005. So I began to take on the website and liven it up as well as producing all the other related artwork for the club like membership stickers, members yearbooks, club clothing designs and anything else that needs some creative work.
As it has been an unpaid project, I’ve used it to further my knowledge in web design, particularly where it comes to running a forum (which I co-moderate). In February 2010 I’ll be handing the site over to the next webmaster who’ll take the project in a new direction, hopefully!

Just gone live today with the rebrand and redesign of What’s the Alternative? What’s the Alternative? is an online magazine focusing on alternative and healthy lifestyles, the magazine has only been around since 2007 but my client was getting particularly fed up with it’s dated look and it’s cumbersome method of updating. I was asked to freshen up the identity and incorporate it into a simple, vibrant and professional looking website that had a similarly simple content management system.
As this was an online magazine with regular updates and with a requirement for easy updating, my immediate thought for a solution was a WordPress powered site. Once my initial designs were approved, I set about modifying a WordPress template and creating a cascading style sheet to suit. As content was added the website quickly began to take form and it became apparent that this was pretty much the perfect solution for this project.

My first attempt at using WordPress and I have to say I love it, the backend database and my modified layout work really well for this magazine-style blog. I managed to create the exact look and feel I wanted so that the printed magazine’s style transferred seamlessly to the web.
Check out the Coast & Country article in Case Studies for more detailed analysis of the project.

Taking on an online newspaper was quite a challenge but one that has proven to be very enjoyable. It has also accelerated me on my learning curve for creating effective, “Google-friendly” websites. With rapidly changing news and feature content combined with advertising updates, this is a site that will eventually need its own dedicated webmaster. Planning had to be meticulous for this site as well as strong consideration for the overall design, layout and user experience. Things are working out very well to date and my work has received nothing but the highest praise from all.
